Seriously, fuck this guy.
Before you wet your pantaloons and froth at the mouth, let me explain. The head honcho at Xavier's Institute for Higher Learning, formerly Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, runs this "school" where he takes children and adults shunned from their family and gives them a place to foster their mutant gifts--and fight in a war to protect humanity from a group of mutants run by his on again off again boyfriend. Remember, most mutants who go to the school initially have no idea what purpose it serves, as the media has a very strong blackout on the whole deal. To them they just know its a "safe haven" for mutants. Most X-Men operations are also done in situations that your average Joe wouldn't even know about--save for the times that entire cities and even countries are destroyed. Even then, I doubt the civilians will be asking to see where their potential heroes got their diploma. This is what the first 3 days of a "student" looks like at Xaviers "school". As you can see, there isn't much of anything other than fighting, deception, homophobia, and bending to the whim of this guy. The other "instructors" in all likelihood didn't even go to college--with the exception of the one that looks like a guy in a blue furry costume.

ITS LIKE HALLOWEEN EVERY DAY!
So quick recap:
- Powerful psychic reaches out to isolated and depressed youth.
- Tells them of a safe place where they can escape persecution and harm.
- Trains them to fight.
- Immediately puts front and center for persecution and harm.
While all of these things are pretty big no-no's I can actually see why it may have to be done. Maybe I'm just sadistic, or maybe I'm talking about a completely fictional universe where people can shoot diamonds out of their asses. My biggest problem with the professor is how he handles relationships with other people, especially his ex boyfriend Max Eisenhardt, aka Magnus aka Erik Lehnsherr, aka Magneto. The way friendship USUALLY works is: You meet someone, you talk a little bit, you get to know them, they get to know you, you are fairly compatible, share more, feel comfortable, and hey, you're sipping martinis on the beach together. The professor can immediately bypass all of this. With one mental cock, he can thrust his way into your head and know all the dark corners of your mind. Now you have someone who you feel has known you all your life, and that you can trust with your life because he knows so much. Your subconscious mind doesn't know the difference between this forced friendship and the natural process. You naturally feel connected to this person, but if you stop and look at the situation--what form of reciprocity does he provide? Almost none. You still don't know this man beyond what he chooses to show you, while he could tell you the number of pubes you shed in the shower. Even though Magneto wears his fancy magic helmet to stop this type of probing, the damage has already been done. If not, he would have killed the Professor a long time to go, as the Professor is literally THE SOLITARY reason Magneto has not completely raped humanity yet.
At the end of the day though, Charles is just doing what anyone with his power would do given the chance--get what he wants. Sure, what he wants is of benefit to both mutants and humans, but when you can make "what you want" subconsciously "what everyone else around you wants" you can't help but wonder if he has been doing it the whole time.
